Tailoring and dress making: Jitahindi Women Empowerment project
The Jitahidi women empowerment project aims at equipping mothers of sponsored children with tailoring and dress making skills. They can then use skills to gain salaried employment or start their own dress making businesses to generate income to support the family. The training runs for six months at Grapesyard School where they have a dedicated Instructure. Since mothers also are also involved in contributing to family food basket in a given day, the program is planned not to disrupt the income. The training runs for 2 days a week and are free the rest of the days. A little financial token is given to trainees to cushion them against the daily income loss during training sessions. Upon successful completion of training program, trainees are sent on a three-month industrial attachment after which they are registered for trade test examination for certification.
